I am excited to announce our K-12 Education Civil Rights Data Collection, Parent and Family Survey! The National Action Network (NAN) is conducting this survey for parents and families of K-12 students, with a focus on the experiences of Black children in education. This initiative is driven by the understanding that while schools collect data, there are often gaps or inaccuracies, particularly when it comes to racial disparities.

As a civil rights organization, we believe it's crucial to gather our own data to accurately inform discussions and provide guidance about Black children in K-12 education. This survey is inspired by the Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC), a biennial survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) since 1968. CRDC data collection is underway and in the final phases.

The CRDC collects information on student enrollment, access to educational programs, and services, with most of this data disaggregated by race, ethnicity, sex, English learner status, and disability. The 2021-2022 CRDC also collected data on the length of preschool programs, their cost, and whether they serve non-IDEA students.

In a similar vein, our survey aims to collect comprehensive data from parents and families about their children's experiences in K-12 education. We hope this data will help us better understand and address the unique challenges and opportunities facing Black children in our education system. Your participation is invaluable in this endeavor. Please share the NAN K-12 Education Civil Rights Data Collection link with your chapters and encourage families of school-age children to participate. T
